University of Alaska Anchorage

College of Business and Public Policy

The University of Alaska is the largest public university in the system in the state. Each of those campuses goes by a different name such as the campus in Anchorage, which goes by the names of University of Alaska Anchorage and UAA. UAA offers an associate’s degree program for accounting majors that prepares them for working as account clerks and both billing and payroll specialists. It bachelor’s program features two more years of work and prepares students for positions as analysts and advisors. A small number of UAA accounting graduates also work for the government in different agencies and positions such as special agents.

Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting

One of the top two Bachelor’s in Accounting programs in Alaska available today is the one offered by UAA. This program teaches students practical skills, including how to analyze all types of financial data and information, the basics of working with accounting software and programs and how to conduct audits. Graduates of this program can sit for one of the top three national licensing exams after finishing just one more year of school. Accounting majors take courses such as Accounting Information Systems I and II, Managerial Accounting, Operations Management and Strategic Management. They will also take all the university’s required general education classes.

University of Alaska Fairbanks

UAF School of Management

The University of Alaska Fairbanks is a branch of the UA system located in Fairbanks that also goes by the name of UAF. UAF has an impressive placement rate of close to 100%, which means that it nearly all of its accounting graduates find work in the accounting field after they finish at the university. This is the highest placement rate among all majors in the School of Management and one of the highest placement rates for accounting majors from any college or university in the country. Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting

UAF offers one of the top Bachelor’s in Accounting programs in Alaska for students who want to know all the classes they must take upfront. The university supplies each incoming student with a degree map that lists out all the courses they will take based on when they enrolled in the program. Students must take 18 credits of classes, including Managerial Cost Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, and Income Tax before taking four courses from six available options. Some of those options include Advanced Accounting, Governmental and Nonprofit Accounting and Internal and Government Accounting. UAF has general education courses that those students will take too.
