College of Business
This historically black, public university in Dover, Delaware was founded in 1891 by the Delaware General Assembly. Concerned that its initial name would cause it to be confused with another institution, the name was soon changed to The State College for Colored Students. It awarded its first four-year degree in 1898 and became Delaware State University in 1993. Since 2015, the school has had a non-smoking policy in its quest to have a healthy environment.
Delaware State University is comprised of four colleges offering 42 undergraduate, 21 graduate, and five doctoral programs. The US News and World Report ranks the school as tied for #1 of Historically Black Colleges and Universities and #142-#187 of Regional Universities-North. The College of Business, which houses the accounting programs, focuses on a student-centered and holistic learning environment.
Accounting, B.S.
The 121 credit-hour program stresses strategic thinking and complex analysis skills. Because the CPA exam requires a minimum of 150 hours of instruction, students can choose to earn the degree in an accelerated BS in Accounting-to-MS in Accounting format which takes five years to complete. All students at Delaware State must take one African-American elective and one multicultural experience class to meet the requirements of the general education component of degree programs.
Sample courses in this program are Operations Management, Strategic Management (which is the senior capstone), Principles of Accounting I and II, Two semesters each of Intermediate and Advanced Accounting and Calculus for Business.

Goldey-Beacom College
Undergraduate Programs
Goldey-Beacom College, in Pike Creek Valley, Delaware, is a private, coeducational school. It was founded in 1886 as Wilmington Commercial College with only five students. The school merged with its competitor Beacom College in 1951. In 1978 the school began offering baccalaureate degrees. The student body has 2,000 students who say they like the small school because it has a nurturing environment. There are 38 degree options including programs in psychology, criminal justice, English, economics, and business.
Accounting, Bachelor of Science
This program emphasizes computer skills and effective communication. The degree is 120 credit-hours. Sample courses are Accounting Principles I and II, Finite Mathematics, Applied Business Statistics, and Federal Taxes.
Graduates of the program will understand accounting principles and concepts and the technology that relates to the accounting discipline. They will know how to research accounting data and have a broad foundation of basic business knowledge.

This university is a private, proprietary institution that has campuses in several states. The majority of its students earn their degrees online. There are more than 36,000 students enrolled. The school acquired the prestigious Jack Welch Management Institute which is a good fit with Strayer’s business focus.
Online Bachelor of Science in Accounting
Graduates of this degree program will be proficient in standard software programs and understand the principles of accounting along with accounting ethics. Because the program is offered online, students complete it at their own pace. Sample courses in the accounting concentration are Algebra with its Applications, Intermediate Accounting I and II, Microcomputer Applications for Accounting and Federal Taxation. Courses in the major are Introduction to Business, Introduction to Information Systems and Accounting I and II, among other courses. The degree program contains 40 courses and costs $1,525 per course.

Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics
The University of Delaware is a public research school in Newark, DE. It is the state’s largest university, with nearly 19,000 undergraduates. Founded by the Presbyterian Church in 1769 as The Academy of Newark, it became the University of Delaware in 1924.
The US News and World Report ranks the school as #89 among National Universities. The school has more than 135 undergraduate and 142 master’s degrees housed in seven schools. There are more than 150 total graduate programs. The University of Delaware also has 82 research centers and institutions. Most classes have between 20 and 49 students, and the student-to-faculty ratio is 13:1. The school has an impressive 74 percent four-year graduation rate.
BS in Accounting
This degree program boasts many opportunities for engagement and developing leadership skills. It provides a foundation for students wishing to take the CPA or CMA exam. Because this program contains 124 credit-hours, and applicants must have 150 credit-hours of instruction to sit for the exam, students are encouraged to take the accelerated BS-to-MS in Accounting program which provides the additional hours. The mission o the accounting program at this school is to “promote scholarship in accounting, to offer distinctive and innovative educational opportunities related to the profession of accounting and to advance successful leadership in a rapidly changing business environment.” Sample courses in the program are Business Computing, Banking and Monetary Policy, and Introduction to Marketing.

MBNA School of Business and Accounting
This college was founded in 1873 as the Wilmington Conference Academy which was a preparatory school. Its name was changed in 1918 to the Wesley College Institute and later it was changed to Wesley College. The school awarded its first four-year degrees in 1978. Wesley College is affiliated with the Methodist Church.
There are 1500 students at Wesley’s Dover campus. The student-to-faculty ratio is 15:1. The US News and World Report ranks this school a #36 to #47 in the second tier of Regional Colleges-North.
BS in Accounting
Students in this degree program will be able to apply principles and concepts of accounting in the workplace. They will interpret transactional data to discover errors, trends, and exceptions in business finance. The MBNA School of Business and Accounting stresses opportunities for students to take internships and to receive individual tutoring. The school also encourages the 3+2 BS-MS program.
The BS program contains 124 credit-hours including 84 in the major plus liberal arts components and electives. Sample courses are Business Law I and II, Cost Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, Public Speaking, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Business Ethics.

Wilmington University
College of Business
Wilmington University is a private doctoral research school, meaning that its many doctorate degrees support a high degree of research. It began in 1968 as Wilmington College and became a university in 2007. There are more than 150 degree and certificate programs housed in the university’s six colleges. Nearly half of Wilmington’s students earn their degrees online. The College of Business awards 10 undergraduate degrees, four graduate degrees, and a doctorate with six concentrations.
The US News and World Report ranks Wilmington as #230-to-301 of National Universities. There are 20,000 students enrolled in the school through its main and satellite campuses and online. Most classes have fewer than 20 students and the student-to-faculty ratio is 13:1.
BS in Accounting
This 120 credit-hour program features unique cooperative experiences which last two semesters and allow students to interact with actual accounting firms and organizations. Competencies taught in the program are informational literacy, technological literacy, ethics and the ability to prepare and present complete financial statements. In addition to required general education courses, there are 33 business core classes like Accounting I and II, Introduction to Business Analytics and Business Statistics. There are also 39 required credit-hours in the accounting core. Some of these courses are Cost Accounting I and II, Tax Accounting I and II and Business Law for Accounting and Finance Majors. Additionally, there are nine hours of free electives, and some of these can be taken as cooperative experiences.
