Master of Science Degree in Accounting
Kaplan University’s Master of Science in Accounting program admits students with completed undergraduate degrees in business. It is designed to prepare graduates for mid- and senior-level management position in the private sector and in government. Its curriculum develops skills in financial accounting, taxation, auditing and cost accounting while also allowing students to choose a concentration and electives specific to their own interests and goals. Depending on certification requirements, graduates may be eligible to sit for Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA) or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) professional certification examinations.

Saint Joseph’s College of Maine
Business Department
Founded in 1912 as a college for women, today Saint Joseph’s College of Maine is a private, Catholic liberal arts college and the only Catholic college in Maine. The College grants only bachelor degrees in its traditional, on-ground setting. It also offers undergraduate and graduate degrees online, however, including a highly regarded Master of Accountancy degree. Saint Joseph’s became coeducational in 1970 and began a distance education program for working adults in 1976, long before the Internet existed. Today, Saint Joseph’s College Online has 2,400 online students in 50 states and nine countries. It also offers one of the leading Master’s in Accounting degree programs in Maine.
Master of Accountancy
The online graduate accounting degree program at Saint Joseph’s College of Maine is open to anyone who has an undergraduate degree in business, but those with undergraduate degrees in accounting have the ability to have up to six credit requirements waived if they can meet the requirements of finishing that accounting degree with at least a “B” in the equivalent of Intermediate Accounting I and II in the undergraduate program. Those qualifying for the 6-credit waiver also have opportunity to apply to and be included in the school’s Fast-Track into the Master of Accountancy program. Applicants who do not have business undergraduate degrees may be admitted after completing 5 prerequisite courses. Graduates are prepared to sit for the CPA exam.

University of Maine
The Maine Business School
Founded in 1865, the University of Maine is the state’s land grant university and currently has a total undergraduate student enrollment of 9,323. U.S. News and World Report ranks University of Maine in its Best Colleges report as number 181 among National Universities. The institution also offers one of the best Master’s in Accounting degree programs in Maine.
Accounting MBA
University of Maine’s Accounting MBA program is a 30-hour program after fulfilling all prerequisites. All of the courses are available on campus, but all also are available online to provide students with maximum flexibility. The school is working toward moving more toward online delivery but also continues to accommodate students who prefer on-campus delivery and can attend physical classes. The program’s focus is to equip graduates with deep understanding of accounting principles and skills for the purpose of equipping them for management, big business, entrepreneurial endeavors, government positions, nonprofit organizations and other possibilities.

University of Southern Maine
School of Business
Part of Maine’s public university system, the earliest forerunner of the University of Southern Maine was founded in 1878. The University of Southern Maine came into being under its current name in 1970 with the combination of the University of Maine at Portland and Gorham Normal School. That entity added the Lewiston campus in 1988 to create today’s University of Southern Maine. Though relatively new in its name, the university is old in existence. It also offers one of the most solid Master’s in Accounting degree programs in Maine.
Located in Portland, the School of Business focuses on real-world, practical business issues as well as on underlying theory. The school has a wonderful reputation within the state’s business community and is able to create practical and academic partnerships both in class and in the marketplace. University of Southern Maine’s School of Business’ AACSB accreditation is a distinction won by less than five percent of the world’s business schools.
