Online Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting
Eastern New Mexico University offers an online Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting degree program that prepares students for attending graduate school and later taking the CPA exam. Students can learn more about internal auditing as well as fraud examination and public accounting. This program allows students to connect with their teachers and peers through an online format. They can log in and watch lectures that professors recorded on campus and use discussion boards to chat with other students. Students also have access to an Online Writing Center and tutors who can help them in their classes. Accounting majors can view digital journals and other resources online too.
One benefit of this program is that it gives students a better understanding of business topics while letting them focus on accounting. They can take courses from any of the other BBA concentrations, including personal financial planning, marketing and applied economics and finance. The program features a business core that is worth 39 credits. Students will take classes such as Introduction to Financial Accounting, Principles of Microeconomics, College Algebra and Spreadsheets and Data Analysis. Eastern New Mexico University requires that students pass each required course with a grade of C or higher.
Like other bachelor’s programs, this one requires that students complete at least 120 credits of classes. Accounting majors have the option of filling out their credits with accounting electives that cover auditing, nonprofit taxation, corporate taxation, personal finance and similar subjects.
About Eastern New Mexico University
Eastern New Mexico University ranks as the newest university in the state. Though founded in 1929, construction did not begin on the university for nearly five years because of the Great Depression. When it finally opened in 1934, it served as the Eastern New Mexico Junior College and primarily offered training programs that helped victims of the Great Depression find jobs to support their families. It kept this name until 1940, which is when it added bachelor’s programs to its curriculum and became Eastern New Mexico College. The new college slowly introduced new graduate programs, which led to the state changing its name to Eastern New Mexico University.
Many people call the university ENMU or Eastern today. It serves as the main university for students in eastern New Mexico, but its student body now includes students from across the country and from some foreign countries. ENMU added two regional branches to its school system over the years. Students can take classes on any of its three campuses or enroll in an online program. Eastern now ranks as one of the top schools in New Mexico. It has an enrollment of more than 6,000 students across all three campuses too.
Eastern New Mexico University Accreditation Details
The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) and its North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS) granted regional accreditation to ENMU. This means that the university will accept transfer credits from students who attended another college before enrolling. It also gives students the option of using financial aid and the FAFSA to obtain financial aid from the government. The accounting and business programs offered by the university have accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) too.
Eastern New Mexico University Application Requirements
Incoming freshmen who want to attend Eastern can submit an application without paying any type of fee. They can download an application from the university’s admissions website, fill it out and send it to the address listed at the top of the form. Eastern also offers an online application that allows students to complete the application and submit it online also without paying a fee. The university only asks for an official transcript and a test score from new students. Students can submit either an ACT or SAT score, but it must come from the official testing board. Students have the option of sending an unofficial transcript while still in high school. When they graduate, they will submit official or final transcripts to the university.
Eastern also accepts homeschooled students. Those students must score at least 900 on the SAT or have an ACT score of 17 or higher. The university also asks these students for homeschool transcript that shows all the courses they took. Adult learners are students who are at least 25 years old. Those students will need to present either a transcript that shows they graduated from high school or proof that they passed the GED test. ENMU recommends that students submit both the FAFSA and a scholarship application at the same time that they apply for admissions.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Though ENMU offers a number of online programs, its online students will pay the same rate that traditional students pay. The cost for full-time New Mexico residents is close to $3,000 each semester. This cost includes all university fees and allows students to take 12 to 18 credits of classes. Nonresidents pay a rate of around $5,800 per semester, which also includes all fees. ENMU takes part in the Western Exchange Program that allows students from certain western states to take classes for a reduced rate. Those students pay around $3,900 per semester. Part-time students pay $247 per credit hour as a New Mexico resident and $488 per credit hour as a nonresident.
The financial aid that students can use to cover those costs can include government aid and institutional aid. Students will use the ENMU school code on the FAFSA and submit that form at least a few weeks before classes start. The FAFSA will determine if students qualify for grants and loans and if they can take part in the university’s work-study program.
ENMU also has a scholarship application that is available online for those who want to apply for institutional scholarships. There are typically only available to students who have a high school GPA of 2.5 or higher. They must maintain a high GPA to keep their scholarships too. Students can get more than $2,000 a year and a stipend that covers all university fees. Some of the larger scholarships cover the entire cost of a student’s tuition but only go to students who have a 3.5 or higher GPA. Eastern New Mexico University offers some scholarships for New Mexico residents and some for students from other states.
