About Stevenson University
Stevenson University is a private institution of higher learning residing in Stevenson, Maryland. It is the third largest independent postsecondary school in the state. It was established in 1947 as Villa Julie College, a school for women, and it was affiliated with the Catholic Church. It received approval as a two-year institution in 1954 from the Maryland State Department of Education. In 1965 the college received approval to extend its programs. The college became an independent school in 1967 when it separated from the Catholic Church. In 1972, the college became coeducational. It became a four-year college in 1984 and it began offering a bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems. The college continued to expand in the 1990s. In the early 2000s, it opened housing complexes. The college became Stevenson University in 2008. The name stemmed from the geographic location of the institution. Federal Work Study
The Federal Work-Study, commonly called FWS, provides part-time employment for students who demonstrate financial need to allow them to work to help pay for college costs. Students are able to work up to 20 hours a week around their class schedule. They are able to gain valuable work experience while gaining a regular paycheck every two weeks. The pay varies by student and employer but is at least the current federal minimum wage.
