Strayer University Master’s in Forensic Accounting

The Accounting Department at Strayer University offers an online Master’s of Science degree with five distinct concentration options, one being forensic accounting. The program requires a total of 12 courses, and students can complete every class entirely online. Strayer University’s programs run on a quarter schedule with four program start dates each year, every 3 months starting in October. Regardless of specific accounting concentration, all students take an eight-class track of accounting classes including Advanced Auditing, Accounting Information Systems, and Managerial Economics and Globalization. Forensic accounting students complete an additional three courses focusing on things like fraud detection, information technology innovations in auditing, and investigation techniques. Finally, as one of the last courses, everyone must complete the Graduate Accounting Capstone which provides an opportunity to use knowledge from previous courses to solve real-world problems. This experience gives students a preview into their future job responsibilities, so they are advised to choose a topic related to their goals. The entire graduate accounting curriculum was designed with the input of experts in the industry, and faculty work hard to ensure that every graduate is prepared to pass the CPA exams. Even though the program can be completed online, students are always welcome to visit campus to speak with professors in person, and they are each assigned a personal ‘Success Coach’ to ensure all needs are met.

About Strayer University

Opening in 1892 in Baltimore, Maryland, Strayer University is one of the longest-running private, for-profit colleges in the United States. The school began with the goal of helping farmers develop necessary business skills, and as it gradually grew and became certified as a junior college and then a bachelors-level institution, accounting has always been one of the school’s specialties. Today, Strayer University offers 11 master’s, six bachelor’s, and six associate degrees in a variety of subjects and enrolls a total of over 40,000 students. Much of the student body attends via online learning methods, but Strayer also has over 70 campuses throughout 15 states and the District of Columbia. Throughout all campuses and every program, the university focuses on two main areas, flexibility, and innovation. Between the 100% online format of many degrees and the evening and weekend class times on campuses, the school attracts older students who have full-time jobs, families, and other responsibilities. Strayer University prides itself on providing these individuals with an educational option that works with their busy schedules. Plus, through the Strayer Studios initiative, faculty members and web developers are working together to build a more interactive and engaging learning platform for their online programs. Even after over 100 years in operation, the university continues to grow and most recently acquired the New York Code and Design Academy which expands their program offerings into the programming and web development sphere.

Strayer University Application Requirements

All applicants to Strayer University must first complete a basic application on the school’s website and they will be directed to provide supplemental materials depending on the chosen program. For those pursuing a master’s in accounting, the primary requirement is the completion of a bachelor’s degree with at least a 2.5 GPA, preferably in accounting or a related field. All prospective students must submit official transcripts from every post-secondary school attended along with a resume and a scanned copy of a government-issued photo identification card. These include completion of three graduate-level courses with at least a 3.0 GPA or completion of an Advanced Professional Military Education program, a GRE score greater than 1000 or a GMAT score of at least 450, and at least three years of verifiable professional employment in a management or leadership position. state residency status or online versus on-campus attendance. Strayer also offers the Legacy Scholarship which is a $500 award granted to any student referred by a family member who also attended the university.
