At Beatrice Fox Auerbach Hall, the Barney School of Business offers a 122-credit BSBA in Finance for University of Hartford Hawks to develop money management skills before 15-week “career ready” internships with Aetna, Deloitte, Travelers, Bank of America, Grant Thornton, and more. Chaired by Dr. James Bannister, the BSBA in Accounting builds a 122-credit, AACSB-accredited curriculum where undergrads can join Beta Alpha Psi, engage in the Women’s Business Center, pursue the 3+1 Master’s, and intern with Ernst & Young. Online on Blackboard, Hartford currently has 661 Master of Business Administration students following a 36-credit, 12-course path with nine concentrations, including Finance and Accounting, for 91 percent job placement. The MS in Accounting & Taxation provides a 30-credit, non-thesis track to Connecticut CPA licensure with seven-week, part-time online courses like Advanced Auditing and Financial Reporting. About the University of Hartford
The University of Hartford originated in 1877 when five trailblazing women, including Harriet Beecher Stowe and Mary Bushnell Cheney, founded the Hartford School for Decorative Arts. In 1879, Civil War General Charles Tudor Hillyer opened his own college at the Hartford YMCA for automotive tech programs. In 1920, musicians Julius Hartt and Moshe Paranov established the Hartt School for performing arts degrees. In 1952, the Ward School of Electronics merged with Hillyer College. In 1957, Connecticut chartered the University of Hartford to bring these three institutions together. That Fall, UHart classes began on the original 150-acre tract of Gabriel Farm. In 1959, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. debuted the university’s Distinguished Lecture Series. In 1971, the University of Hartford erected the Mortensen Library. In 1988, UHart joined the Connecticut Space Grant College Consortium. In 2006, UHart launched the Women’s Education and Leadership Fund. Two years later, Hartford built Mort & Irma Handel Center.

University of Hartford Accreditation Details
On May 8, 2012, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) Commission on Institutions of Higher Education (CIHE) informed the University of Hartford that the Level VI accreditation status was reaffirmed through 2021-22 under President Gregory S. Woodward, DMA, who earned the United Way Legacy of Leadership Award. Located 106 miles east via Interstate 90 in Burlington, Massachusetts, this superb six-state Northeast Region accreditor is authorized by the U.S. Department of Education to review UHart’s 134 undergrad, 61 post-grad, and nine certificate offerings. Further, the Barney School of Business is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
University of Hartford Application Requirements
Enrollment at the University of Hartford is classified as “moderately difficult” by Peterson’s since 11,360 of the 14,043 Fall 2018 applicants were triumphant for 81 percent acceptance. First-year Hawks seeking the BSBA in Accounting or Finance must graduate from an accredited secondary school. Total GED scores of 580 or higher would qualify. The Class of 2022 reported a 3.14 average GPA. Mid-range admitted SAT scores were 520-620 for reading and 510-610 for math. The middle 50th percentile had ACT scores of 21-27. Standardized tests are optional unless students were homeschooled. Transfers typically have 30+ credits at the 100 level or greater with minimum 2.0 GPAs. International learners must prove English ability with at least 80 TOEFL iBT or 6.5 IELTS scores. The Barney School of Business admits master’s cohorts with a strong GPA above 2.75 GPA during four-year baccalaureate preparation. The MS in Accounting & Taxation lists five prerequisites, including Cost Management and Federal Income Tax Concepts. Post-grads present a mean GMAT score of 483. Test waivers are offered for a 3.0 GPA or 3+ years of work experience.

University funds include the Bloomfield Scholars Scholarship, President to President Scholarship, Hartford Scholars Award, Connecticut Pledge Scholarship, Athletic Scholarship, Regents’ Scholarship, Academic Merit Scholarship, Alumni Grant, Family Grant, Hartford Partners for Scholarship, Model United Nations Scholarship, David Labau Endowed Scholarship, Tai Soo Kim Traveling Fellowship, Frederick Mahaffey Memorial Endowed Scholarship, and Hartt Graduate Fellowship. The $2,000 DECA Scholarship has an April 1st deadline for Barney School of Business majors who’ve competed for 2+ years. Until May 1st, the Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship is available for transfers with an associate degree and GPA above 3.50.
