The University of Houston-Downtown offers a Minor in Finance, Minor in Accounting, Minor in Accounting and Finance for Non-Business Majors, Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance, Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting, Master of Business Administration in Finance, and Master of Business Administration in Finance.
The minor in finance provides an overview of finance concepts. A minimum of 18 credit hours are required for completion. The required courses include Investments, Money, Markets and Institutions, International Finance, and Advanced Financial Management.
The minor in accounting gives students a basic understanding of the accounting field. At least 21 credit hours are needed for completion of the program. The required courses include Financial Accounting, Managerial Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, and Individual Income Taxation.
The Minor in Accounting and Finance for Non-Business Majors is a program intended to complement majors in other areas. A minimum of 18 hours are needed. The courses include: Accounting for Non-Business Majors, Taxation for Non-Business Majors, Personal Finance, Introduction to Economics, Principles of Real Estate, and Personal Selling.
The Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance provides instruction on theory and analytical methods to enable students to learn how to perform various functions in financial organizations. A total of 120 credit hours are needed for completion of the program. The finance core courses include Money, Markets and Institutions, Cases in Managerial Finance, Investments, and Advanced Financial Management. Students must complete one of the two financial tracks: Corporate Finance Track or Investment Management Track.
The Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting provides students with a solid understanding of the breadth of accounting concepts to prepare for careers or pursuing graduate studies. The program requires the completion of at least 120 credit hours. The accounting core courses include Intermediate Accounting, Cost Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, Individual Income Taxation, Corporate Taxation, Advanced Accounting, and Auditing. Students also have the ability to choose a specialization track in Financial Reporting, Auditing and Taxation, Cost Management and Decision Analysis, and Accounting Information Systems.
The Master of Business Administration in Finance provides students with a comprehensive understanding of business development, prioritizing capital investments, and forecasting. A minimum of 36 credit hours is needed for program completion. The finance concentration courses include Financial Forecasting and Behavioral Finance, Ethical and Professional Standards, Capital Markets and Investment Planning, Communication for Finance Professionals, Advanced Corporate Finance, and Graduate Colloquium.
The Master of Business Administration in Accounting provides advanced instruction of accounting concepts, such as financial reporting, tax, and audit. At least 39 credit hours are needed for completion of the program. The accounting concentration courses include Advanced Taxation, Accounting Research and Writing, Advanced Auditing, Advanced Accounting Topics, Professionalism for Accountants, Industry Specific Topics in Accounting, and Graduate Colloquium.
