The University of the Incarnate Word offers several degrees for students interested in studying accounting and finance, and applicants may choose from undergraduate or graduate degree programs. At the main campus, students may earn an undergraduate degree in accounting or a Master of Science in Accounting.
The university also offers degrees in business administration with a focus on accounting or finance, and these degrees are available at the undergraduate or graduate level. Business administration programs are offered in a traditional classroom format or as an adult education program online. Programs in accounting and finance at the University of the Incarnate Word are offered by the H-E-B School of Business and Administration.
The university’s accounting programs are primarily designed for students who eventually want to become Certified Public Accountants, but students with any educational goals may apply. To earn status as a CPA, students must complete 150 semester hours as required by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.
The University of the Incarnate Word has designed its Bachelor of Business Administration program with a concentration in Accounting to fit well with the Master of Science in Accounting program. One of the unique features of the graduate program is that students who earn a BBA from the university and achieve an average of B in all of their accounting courses can automatically qualify for entry into the MSA program.

Meanwhile, students who choose the route of a degree in finance and want to become financial planners, banking officers, or portfolio managers will choose the BBA in Finance. The university offers two paths in its BBA in Finance program that include the financial planning path or the banking path. Classes a student may take include Investment Planning, Management Science, and Money & Capital Markets.
About University of the Incarnate Word
The University of the Incarnate Word was established in 1881 and is a private, co-educational university affiliated with the Catholic Church. Located in San Antonio, the university was started by the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word and has a second campus in Alamo Heights. In addition to its college campuses, the university also operates other schools that include an all-girls high school, a co-educational high school, and a pair of elementary schools.
The college campus has almost 11,000 students enrolled at its 154-acre campus, with some of those students taking classes online. The university’s official colors are red and black, and the school’s mascot is the Cardinal. Sports teams play as the Cardinals, too, in their NCAA Division I games as part of the Southland Conference. There are 21 varsity teams at the university. Since the 1990s, the university has offered a variety of adult education courses.
University of the Incarnate Word Accreditation Details
Regional accreditation for the University of the Incarnate Word comes from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, which allows the university to offer associate, baccalaureate, masters, doctorate, and professional degrees. Students who elect to attend degree programs from accredited universities are eligible to participate in federal student loan programs. The university’s programs are also accredited by other organizations.

University of the Incarnate Word Application Requirements
First-time freshmen who want to apply to the University of the Incarnate Word will need to complete the official application, send high school transcripts, and submit standardized test scores from the SAT and ACT. Students who have earned a GED will send scores from that test, and applicants who have participated in Advanced Placement classes will send those test scores.
Applicants are also eligible to submit dual credit transcripts. The university also offers students the opportunity to submit letters of recommendation, submit to a campus interview, and schedule a visit to the campus during the admissions process. The admissions process at the university is described as holistic, and students will have their class rank, test scores, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, and leadership potential considered during the admissions process.
Tuition and Financial Aid
Tuition for undergraduate students at the University of the Incarnate Word is $29,900 for one year with additional fees of $1,276. Students should also budget approximately $1,400 for books, as well as prepare to pay $12,824 if they want to live on campus. Students who need health insurance will pay an additional $1,869. In all, the university expects students to pay $47,269 for a year of study in an undergraduate program.
Tuition and fees for graduate programs vary but generally cost $940 per credit hour. Doctoral students are charged $970 per credit hour. Students enrolled in the School of Medicine pay $55,000 each year for tuition, and those in the School of Pharmacy pay $37,500 annually. Some programs are charged at a per-credit rate, and others are charged at an annual rate. Students may also pay fees associated with attending the university that includes application fees, insurance fees, and matriculation fees.
The university offers 95 percent of its students some type of financial aid, and nearly 80 percent of its enrollees qualify for need-based assistance. The average financial aid award is more than $16,000. Students must submit their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if they want to qualify for financial assistance. Applications are available as early as October 1st.
There are many scholarship and tuition assistance opportunities for students who attend the University of the Incarnate Word. For example, siblings who attend the university are eligible for a tuition discount, and Texas residents who are completing their 150 required credit hours to become CPAs are eligible to apply for the Fifth-Year Accounting Scholarship.
